Cinnamon Bun Smoothie Bowl

The leaves are turning. The days are growing shorter. The air has that lovely earthy aroma that warms you from the inside out. Anddddd it’s still hot as summer in NYC.

They ain’t joking about that Indian Summer. It’s a thing!

So while I’m over here trying to build a leaf pile and go frolicking in my flannel and booties, the weather has some other ideas. But I believe you can have your cake and eat it too (actually, if you want to get real precise here, the phrase was originally “you can’t eat your cake and have it too,” but somewhere down the line of language evolution, the two clauses switched…linguistics nerd, can’t help it).

Enter in the cinnamon bun smoothie bowl. All of the delicious and warming flavors of fall in cooling and refreshing smoothie form. Take that, 80-degree heat wave!

Have this bowl as a snack, or throw in some extra collagen to make it a meal, and you’ve covered all your bases!

What’s in this bowl, you might ask? Cauliflower may think it’s the main star, but I’d say that coconut butter and cinnamon also share the lead role. I also added some sprouted almond milk for extra creaminess (coconut milk would work beautifully here as well), and marine collagen for some staying power. Topped with a few of my seasonal favorites too: roasted acorn squash, pomegranate arils, pecan butter (I love Georgia Grinder’s pecan butter!), and pumpkin seeds of course!

So whip up this smoothie, cool down, and grab a seat as we wait for the crisp autumn weather!

Cinnamon Bun Smoothie Bowl

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup organic steamed then frozen cauliflower
  • ½ tsp organic cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp organic coconut butter (I love Artisana Organics’ coconut butter- the best quality ingredients in all of their butters!)
  • 1 cup sprouted organic almond or coconut milk
  • 1 scoop Wild-Caught Marine Collagen (use code: “bananadiaries” for a discount at Further Food for your collagen!)
  • Optional: ¼ frozen banana or ½ tsp ground stevia leaf (it should be green) for sweetness
  • Toppings: roasted acorn squash, pomegranate seeds, pumpkin seeds, your favorite nut butter

Directions:

  • Place cauliflower and milk in a blend and process until completely smooth.
  • Add in cinnamon, coconut butter, collagen, and sweeteners if needed.
  • Blend until completely mixed.
  • Serve and top with your favorite additions!

 

Just BEET It Smoothie Bowl

Hello, gorgeous humans, and happy Monday!

How was everyone’s weekend? This past weekend, I went with the fambam to Florida! It was an awesome trip, and a much needed break from the normal grind of life (I mean, who doesn’t love laying on a beach), but I definitely need to be a little better about the sunscreen #whoops.

Now, vacation is awesome- I mean, who doesn’t love a little R&R time? But if we’re being completely honest, I was itching to get back to my routine come Sunday morning. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, especially with my trip to Italy (da sola…I know!! Big girl panties time), but that’s for a full-out post, not when you’re just tryna get to the recipe (lol, I know what you really want here).

So I’m being staying present for the time being (and I’ll explain how I do this later in that post too!), but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t dreaming about this smoothie bowl last week. I mean, in this heat, could I not?

How did I get that gorgeous color, you might be asking? BEETs me 😉 Alright, really lame pun, but ya get the picture- BEETS!

This smoothie is packed to the brim with nutrients and antioxidants from veggies, fruits, collagen, and nut butter, and let me tell you, it’s a keeper.

Of course, no smoothie bowl would be complete without toppings (because let’s be real, I just do it for the toppings), so here’s the lineup: grapes, bananas, cacao nibs, chia seeds, hemp seeds, Living Intentions Superfood Cereal (legit magic), coconut flakes, anddddd almond butter (because duh). You can choose whatever toppings you like, but it is my so humble opinion that this is the way to do it 😉 Haha! Just kidding, have it your way! That’s the beauty of the bowl J

Just BEET It Smoothie Bowl

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup steamed then frozen zucchini
  • ½ frozen banana
  • ½ cup strawberries
  • ½ large cooked beet
  • 1 tbsp almond butter (or other if you’d like!)
  • 1 scoop Further Food Collagen (I like the marine collagen! Use the code: BANANADIARIES for a discount!)
  • enough almond milk/water to get it going
  • Toppings!

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to the blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and frothy.
  3. Pour into a bowl and top with favorite toppings.
  4. Slurp it down!!

Super Duper Blooby Smoothie Bowl

Who else is loving this short week? I know I am! Waking up yesterday and realizing that there were only three (now two!) days until the weekend felt like waking up on Christmas…okay not quite, but almost!

But then I realized there’s only two days until the weekend, which means two days until we move into our new apartment (still in the good ole ‘burg, actually still in the same building, just upgrading), which means I better start packing!

And for someone who is normally a neat freak, I’m realizing I’ve accumulated much more stuff than I know what to do with. As you know, these past few months have been quite a whirlwind, a good one, but certainly one that has knocked me off my feet a little, so I’m looking at this move as a way to really hit the refresh button! With all of the changes going on, it’s helpful to clear out some of the extra junk that I just don’t need anymore.

But getting rid of lots of unwanted stuff calls for allllllll of the super powers I can get! Enter in the Super Duper Blooby Smoothie Bowl (yes, I said blooby. I’m making it a word. Deal with it.). Man, oh man, is this just what I need right now!

To start, I threw in some zucchini, some spinach, some strawbs, and lots of blueberries. Then I added in some maca, spirulina, Salba Chia ground chia seeds, and Further Food collagen, blended it all up, and was pleasantly surprised at this first go-round!

Not too sweet, but just enough to hide the spirulina taste (I love spirulina, but I’m going to be honest- it tastes like the bottom of a murky ocean), and enough fuel to actually keep me full.

But what’s a bowl without some healthy PHATS?! Some people add in the nut butter when they blend, but I like to stir it in so it’s like a swirled ice cream consistency 😉 Also topped it with some Artisana Organics coconut butter (a.k.a. the OG magic shell) and the usual suspects, and called it a day!

How’s that for super duper?

Super Duper Blooby Smoothie Bowl

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • ½ zucchini, steamed then frozen
  • ½ cup spinach, fresh
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • ½ cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 packet ground Salba Chia seeds
  • 1 scoop Further Food collagen (use code BANANADIARIES10 for a 10% discount)
  • 1 tsp maca powder
  • 1 tsp spirulina
  • Filtered water for consistency
  • Desired toppings (I recommend any nut or seed butter, coconut butter, cacao nibs, granola, hemp seeds, coconut flakes, chia seeds…you name it!)

Directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender (add about ½ cup water to start).
  2. Blend and add more water if needed- consistency should be thick, but blended)
  3. Top with your favorite toppings, and enjoy!
