This peppermint hot chocolate is sugar free, packed with protein, and won’t spike your blood sugar, all while giving you the cozy feels of the holidays!

The temperatures are most definitely dropping in NYC, the leaves are changing and falling to the ground, and the holiday markets are finally going up! And if we’re being completely honest, I’ve already started my holiday movie marathon (sorry, Freeform, but I can’t wait another 3 weeks for your 25 days of Christmas!).

So what better way to bring in the holiday season than to cozy up with a fuzzy blanket, put on Elf, and sip a cup of this cozy peppermint hot chocolate?! Yeah, I didn’t think there was a better way 😉

This peppermint hot chocolate really shocked me by how delicious and surprisingly sweet it was! It tastes like a very decadent and rich mug of cocoa that one might find at the ice skating rink in Bryant Park right now, except with a few drops of peppermint oil and a lot more protein than your average cup of cocoa. But trust me, even Santa would be about this cocoa!

It’s surprisingly easy too! The base of the peppermint hot chocolate is almond milk, but you can easily sub in coconut milk for a creamier taste (although, this recipe is already very creamy!). What really makes this cocoa is the Chocolate Collagen Powder from Ancient Nutrition. They are the only brand that I really trust with collagen. I’ve spoken with the team directly, and am just a huge fan of Dr. Josh Axe. That’s not to say that other collagens aren’t as good, but my Banana Fam knows that I don’t use many products, and the products I do use have been highly vetted.

For the peppermint flavor, you can use either peppermint oil that you find in the baking section of your market, or you could also use peppermint essential oils! Just a few drops of the essential oil will have this tasting like a candy cane, so be very careful not to add too much! The added benefit of this is that it’s highly soothing to your belly, so not only are you getting a lot of protein and a nice antioxidant boost from the cacao, you’re also easing digestion with the peppermint oil 😉 It’s a triple win!

So what are the ingredients? All you need is:

Unsweetened almond milk (or homemade)

Ancient Nutrition Chocolate Bone Broth Protein Powder

Organic Cacao Powder

Peppermint Oil

Vanilla Extract or Powder

That’s it! Really easy 🙂 The trick for getting it extra frothy is blending it- once I’ve heating the almond milk, I pour all of the ingredients into a high speed blender and blend until it’s thick and creamy!
