Why you need this garlic bread recipe:
A side of bread with any dinner is a necessity, but a side of garlic bread instantly takes any old meal to amazing.
It’s comfort in a bite- warm, ‘buttery,’ deliciously rich with loads of roasted garlic and herb flavor and just enough salt for you to take bite after bite. Every good meal has a serving of garlic bread, so why shouldn’t vegans have that as well?
That’s why we do. This ridiculously simple vegan garlic bread recipe is truly one you will make over and over, every week, for every special occasion and family gathering. It’s the recipe that makes memories to last a life time, and it’s so easy too- we’re talking 20 minutes start to finish.
And yes, there’s even a method for prepping this garlic bread ahead of time to save even more time around the holidays (because with a full vegan Thanksgiving meal in the works, I’ll take any amount of prep time I can get!).
Serve this with any of your favorite pasta dish, soup, or salad- I just made it with my favorite roasted delicate squash kale salad, and my husband devoured half of the loaf to himself 😂It’s THAT good!
5 Simple Ingredients:
- Baguette or Ciabatta roll: I personally love the ciabatta roll for a slightly softer garlic bread. However, a baguette is also great and more commonly used. It’s whatever you grew up with that you prefer!
- Vegan butter: I like to use Miyoko’s, however, Plant Crock also works great! I have not tried Violife or Earth Balance here.
- Garlic: You can use fresh garlic or store bought minced garlic.
- Dried parsley: You can also use a blend of Italian herbs, basil, or even rosemary!
- Sea salt

In Britt’s Kitchen: How to make this garlic bread *extra special*:
So, I personally love vegan cheese- there are some not-so-great brands, but then there are some AMAZING brands. When you have a good vegan cheese…I’m telling you, you’ll never crave dairy cheese again.
And that’s what you can use on this garlic bread to take it from amazing to jaw-dropping.
I like to use Violife parmesan (the one that you grate) or Miyoko’s liquid mozzarella. It will bubble and brown, and stretch apart, like cheese! The parmesan will give you the most nostalgic garlic bread flavor, but I truly love both.
Just sprinkle the cheese on after you spread the garlic herb butter onto the baguette halves, and bake! No need to change anything else!
Can I make this recipe gluten free as well?
Of course! I love using my gluten-free sandwich bread loaf, quartered lengthwise. That works perfectly with this recipe.
You can also use your favorite gluten-free baguette or ciabatta roll just fine.
Make ahead tip:
You can absolutely prep this garlic bread and freeze it for later (aka the holidays!!).
What I like to do is prepare this garlic bread through Step 4. Then wrap the halves of garlic bread in separate tin foil sheets, and once more in plastic wrap (to ensure they don’t get freezer burn).
Freeze for up to 3 months! When ready to bake, simply preheat the oven to 415F, and place each half onto a baking sheet. Then bake for 18-20 minutes (it will take slightly longer, as these are frozen!).
What to serve your garlic bread with:
Here are a few of my family’s favorite go-to weeknight dinners that we’re usually prepping this garlic bread with:
- Easy vegan lentil meatballs
- Roasted sweet potato salad with lentils
- Simple vegan lasagna
- Vegan Gnocchi alla Sorrentina
- Vegan pizza
- Sweet potato gnocchi with garlic sage sauce
- Baked vegan Mac n’ cheese
- Vegan caesar salad
- Easy vegan tortellini soup
- BEST vegan chili recipe

Description
This homemade vegan garlic bread is ready in just 15 minutes and tastes just as you remember- warm, ‘buttery,’ filled with tons of garlicky herb flavor. Serve with pizza, pasta, or your favorite salad or soup! It’s a family favorite recipe you’ll be making on repeat for weeknight dinner!
Ingredients
- 1 large baguette or ciabatta loaf
- 1/3 cup (67 g) salted vegan butter, softened
- 8–10 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp dried parsley
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat the oven to 415F, and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Make sure the garlic is minced.
- Slice the loaf: Using a large kitchen knife, slice the ciabatta loaf length-wise in half, so you have 2 long halves. Place each open-faced onto the baking sheet.
- Mix: In a small bowl, mix together the vegan butter, minced garlic, parsley, and sea salt with a spoon or fork. Make sure it’s all mixed together consistently.
- Spread: Spread the vegan butter garlic mixture onto each half of the ciabatta loaf generously and evenly.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet into the oven to bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the garlic has started to brown. Remove from the oven.
- Slice and serve: Let the bread cool for 5 minutes before slicing into long or square slices of garlic bread. Serve warm, and enjoy!
- Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container and in the fridge for up to 1 week. Reheat in the oven at 300F on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet for 5-7 minutes.
Notes
Gluten free: Use my gluten-free sandwich bread recipe or your favorite gluten free ciabatta bread.
Vegan butter: I recommend Miyoko’s, but Plant Crock is also great!
