How to make creamy peanut butter
Learn how to make your how creamy easy peanut butter with this easy two step method! The perfect pantry staple recipe!
Okay so truth be told, I’ve been making my own creamy peanut butter for quite some time, and it’s one of my favorite recipes to make.
I still love buying peanut butter, but sometimes homemade is just so good!
So if you’ve ever wondered how to make your own creamy peanut butter, look no further: all you’ll need is peanuts, a food processor, and a spare 5 minutes!
Yes, that’s all it takes to make your own peanut butter 🙂 It’s really not complicated at all, and you’ll be wowed by the taste!
Is it cheaper to make your own peanut butter?
It absolutely can be! Making peanut butter at home cheaper than store bought truly just depends on the quality and brand of peanuts that you purchase.
I like to stick to buying organic peanut butter or organic peanuts, since non-organic peanuts have higher amounts of not only pesticides, but fungus as well, so my peanuts and peanut butter are slightly more expensive than conventional in general.
That being said, a jar of organic peanut butter can go from anywhere between $7 and $12 in store. A bag of organic peanuts that will make the same quantity of peanut butter can be anywhere between $5 and $10, depending on where you buy.
So it really just depends!
How do you make peanut butter step by step
That being said, homemade creamy peanut butter can, in my opinion, sometimes taste better than store bought! Don’t get me wrong, I have my favorite peanut butter brands. But sometimes you just want that homemade taste.
I’ve been making my own nut butters since I was in high school (so scarily, over 10 years now, YIKES!), and if I’ve been making something that long consistently, then you know it’s straight forward.
But before you begin, you’ll need just one single ingredient to make this peanut butter:
- PEANUTS!
That’s it! Of course, you can add in some flavor enhancers, such as sea salt, cinnamon, vanilla extract, etc, but trust me when I say this peanut butter tastes heavenly just as is.
Now, to make this peanut butter, you’ll first need to begin roasting the peanuts in the oven for a few minutes until they’re aromatic and oily.
Then, place them into a food processor once cooled for 5 minutes.
Then puree the peanuts for about 3-5 minutes, or until creamy!
The peanuts will become a flour, then they’ll start to clump, and finally it will become a smooth and creamy peanut butter.
How long does homemade peanut butter last?
Well, even store bought peanut butter doesn’t last me long, considering my daily consumption of peanut butter is considerably high ha!
When making homemade peanut butter, though, it will last up to 6 months when stored in an airtight container. I prefer to store mine in the fridge for extra freshness.
Also, be sure to not use a licked spoon and put it back into the jar- that sounds like a weird note to make, but it will make your peanut butter last longer and it’s more sanitary!
Can I use other nuts here?
You can absolutely make a mixed nut peanut butter with this recipe, swapping in 1 cup of peanuts out for whichever nut you’d like. However, you can also just use the method to make homemade almond butter, pecan butter, walnut butter, or even pistachio butter!
For homemade cashew butter, I have a whole cashew butter guide because it needs slightly more work than peanut butter (which doesn’t require a lot of work!).
I hope you love this creamy peanut butter recipe as much as I do! It’s super wonderful in this creamy vegan peanut butter frosting 🙂 And these soft baked peanut butter chocolate chip cookies! If you give it a go, let me know down below in the comments section.
