The Best Paleo Cinnamon Rolls (Vegan too!)
Gooey and sweet paleo cinnamon rolls that a no-rise easy for a deliciously healthy breakfast on the weekend! Completely vegan, dairy free, and gluten free, these soft rolls are perfect for kids and adults!
There is nothing quite light soft and sweet cinnamon rolls on a weekend or holiday morning
Growing up, my family was a huge fan of the Pillsbury version, and while, yes, they tasted amazing, not everyone can enjoy them, and I’m about inclusivity!
So naturally, I revamped my vegan cinnamon rolls recipe to be completely Paleo, gluten free, and nut free!
But trust me, even if you’re not Paleo, vegan, dairy free, or any of these labels, I can guarantee you’ll still love these rolls.
Why? Because the “flour” we’re using literally pulls apart, looks like, and tastes like regular flour. It’s pretty incredible! But I share my secrets further down, so read on 😉
The Best Paleo Cinnamon Rolls
While I’m sure you’ve read that headline before, these truly are the best Paleo cinnamon rolls because it’s quite literally the best of both worlds.
You get an gooey cinnamon roll that’s sweet with cinnamon and pulls apart like any other roll topped with a delicious icing, but you also get all of the allergy friendly benefits of them being Paleo, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, and nut free.
I’m big on the nut free too, because so many Paleo and vegan recipes have nuts in them, which excludes a whole population of people that have nut allergies!
So what’s in these rolls, you might ask? Simple:
- Cassava flour and coconut flour mixed together
- Unsweetened applesauce
- Ground flaxseed
- Coconut milk with apple cider vinegar (to create a “buttermilk” texture)
- Baking powder (or really Paleo, and do baking soda with apple cider vinegar!)
- Coconut sugar
- Coconut oil
- And the icing? Coconut butter!
Now, you’ll notice that these are Paleo vegan cinnamon rolls without yeast…yes, no yeast!
Which makes them even easier because now you don’t have to fret about getting the liquids to the right temperature or setting aside the right amount of time for the dough to rise!
How to make Paleo Vegan Cinnamon Rolls without yeast
So these Paleo vegan cinnamon rolls are actually quite simple to put tighter, and that’s all thank to there being no yeast, so you don’t have to worry about getting the right temperature or setting aside enough time for rising!
Because if you’re making these for the holidays, I know the last thing you want to think about is breakfast!
So let’s go over the simple steps that are needed for making the dough of these dairy free cinnamon rolls, and then we’ll go over how to actually make a roll!
To start, make sure that you start to make your flaxseed “egg” by combing the ground flaxseed with water, and add the apple cider vinegar to the coconut milk so that it begins to create a vegan “buttermilk” (like how we do in my vegan buttermilk pancakes).
Next:
- Whisk together the cassava flour, coconut flour, baking soda, and coconut sugar.
- Add in the applesauce, ground flaxseed mixture, coconut milk, and vanilla, and mix until well combined.
- Add in the coconut oil, and knead the oil into the dough.
That’s literally all you need to do for the cinnamon roll dough. And, like I said, no rise time because these are yeast free Paleo cinnamon rolls!
Now we roll out the dough, so make sure that you clear a clean surface or use a piece of parchment paper (what I recommend doing, as it will help you roll the rolls!).
Then:
- Dust a clean surface or parchment paper with extra cassava flour and place the dough in the center. Dust the top of the dough and a rolling pin with extra cassava flour as well.
- Roll the Paleo cinnamon roll dough out to be a large rectangle, about 18″ in length and 10″ in width (but does not have to be exact, just as long as it’s a rectangle!).
- Brush the cinnamon roll dough with melted coconut oil, and sprinkle an even coating of coconut sugar and cinnamon on top.
- Use the parchment paper to gently roll the cinnamon rolls dough lengthwise away from you in a tight roll.
- Slice into 10-12 cinnamon rolls and place inside the baking dish.
Now all you need to do is bake! These rolls only take 30 minutes to bake. And the icing? I recommend using coconut butter if you’re going for a low sugar option, but you can also use the vegan cream cheese frosting, like I did on my vegan pumpkin cinnamon rolls!
I hope you love these easy Paleo vegan cinnamon rolls as much as I do! If you make them, let me know down below in the comments section.

Hi, this recipe looks amazing! I was just wondering if there is a replacement for the cassava flour, could I use ap flour or almond flour? Thanks for this delicious recipe!
You could absolutely use almond flour as a 1-to-1 swap, but for the all purpose, I recommend using my vegan pumpkin cinnamon rolls (https://thebananadiaries.com/vegan-pumpkin-cinnamon-rolls/ ) and you can swap out the pumpkin for applesauce if you don’t have that on hand 🙂 But either of those options would work! Let me know how it goes!
Hi Britt! This recipe looks amazing and I can’t wait to make it! Can I use eggs in this recipe?
Hi Katrina! Aw thank you! You can swap in 2 eggs for the flaxseed, and that will work just fine 🙂
Amazing recipe!! These really got Christmas morning ROLLIN’ 😉 but seriously, they were a huge hit!
Aw I’m so happy to hear that!! Happy Holidays!
Will the baking powder taste be prominent?
Nope! You won’t taste it at all!
I want to try these for Christmas! Can I use oat milk instead of coconut milk?
Hi Jaimee! Absolutely!
Can I use a different non dairy milk instead of coconut milk?
Yes definitely!
Can I replace Apple sauce?
Yes! You may use a Paleo friendly df yogurt, such as a coconut cream yogurt!
