Finally- an easy dairy free sweetened condensed milk without coconut!

Sweetened condensed milk is an amazing component recipe that is so important for when a recipe calls for it (think ice cream or homemade candy).

But when you don’t have it on hand, it’s super frustrating because honestly, there aren’t great swaps. That’s where this simple and easy vegan sweetened condensed milk recipe comes.

I’ve been in the middle of making a recipe, and realized I forgot to purchase vegan sweetened condensed milk, so I’ve made this in a pinch loads of times and it works perfectly.

And you don’t even need any coconut milk. Just 3 simple ingredients: oat milk (which you can even use my non-slimy homemade oat milk here!), sugar, and vegan butter. It truly is that easy!

It just depends on your recipe and your desired outcome. But let’s get to the recipe:

Description

This easy, hands-off vegan sweetened condensed milk uses just creamy oat milk, sugar, and vegan butter to create a super rich unbelievably dairy-free sweetened condensed milk perfect for ice cream, recipes, or even coffee!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480 mL) creamy oat milk, either store bought or homemade
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (56 g) vegan butter

Instructions

  1. Mix: In a medium saucepan, mix the oat milk and granulated sugar together.
  2. Heat: Then place the pan onto the stove top and heat on medium high until the mixture begins to boil. Once boiling, stir and reduce the heat to simmer. Let the sweetened condensed milk simmer for 30-45 minutes, or until the granulated sugar is completely dissolved into the oat milk.
  3. Stir in the vegan butter: Remove the sweetened condensed milk from the heat, and stir in the vegan butter.
  4. Pour and cool: Pour the sweetened condensed milk into a heat safe storage container and let cool at room temperature for 15 minutes before transferring to the fridge to cool completely.
  5. Uses: Use in homemade ice cream, icebox cakes, coffee, whipped cream, and more!

Notes

Storage: this sweetened condensed milk keeps well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
