Healthy Apple Cinnamon Bread (Vegan)
Moist and delicious yet secretly healthy apple cinnamon bread made entirely vegan! You won’t believe this easy fresh apple bread is low fat and low sugar!
What can I make with a lot of apples?
Of course, I have a few options on the blog, including my favorite healthy apple pie. Truly, everyone loves this one!
That’s a wonderful recipe when you just come home from apple picking. But say you have a few apples still leftover. Well, you could enjoy them as is, but I highly recommend making this vegan apple bread with an oat topping.
It’s absolutely irresistible. In fact, Jared’s dad quite literally had two slices in one sitting (I mean, I don’t blame him, I was going back for my second after I photographed this ha!).
I mean, you just can’t beat that cinnamon streusel apple filling. It’s so gooey and just adds that extra wow factor that makes you unable to stop going back for bite after bite!
The best healthy apple cinnamon bread recipe
So this is not just any apple cinnamon bread recipe. It’s actually secretly refined sugar free, dairy free, egg free, nut free, and can easily be made gluten free.
Basically free of the Top 8 Allergens? Heck yes.
Woah there! Can it still taste good?! Absolutely. Because we use applesauce in this vegan apple cinnamon bread, we’re actually able to go with less sugar, less oil, and no eggs.
Applesauce is truly not just for kids! It’s a wonderful vegan baking substitute to keep your baked goods moist and delicious while also keeping them lower in fat and egg free.
Now, the bread of one of my favorite healthy apple desserts is a super moist and crumbly cinnamon sweet bread. It’s so incredibly delicious. Not to mention, you have this wonderfully gooey cinnamon streusel apple filling, along with a deliciously oaty crumble on top.
Top with a few extra apple slices, and it’s the perfect healthy fall dessert or breakfast with a cup of coffee!
How to make apple cinnamon bread from scratch
For this easy healthy apple cinnamon bread, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Flour (you can use gluten free 1:1 flour here)
- Coconut sugar
- Cinnamon
- Unsweetened applesauce
- Dairy free milk
- Flaxseed (to make a vegan flaxseed egg)
- Apples
- Coconut oil (for the streusel)
- Oats
What I love about my healthy apple desserts in particular is that I try to stick with really basic ingredients. There are no unknown or hard-to-find ingredients in this healthy applesauce bread!
Now, to make this healthy oat apple bread, you’ll need to make the batter, the streusel filling, and the oat crumble.
The apple bread batter
Much like other quick breads, you’ll just need to whisk together the dry ingredients.
Then fold in the wet ingredients (which are kept at room temperature!) until all of the dry is fully mixed in.
I just want to emphasize again: make sure your wet ingredients are room temperature! This ensures that you don’t get any gummy texture when your bread bakes.
The cinnamon apple filling
Once the batter is made, you’ll pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, then make the cinnamon filling: mix together the coconut oil, coconut sugar, and cinnamon.
Pour the cinnamon sugar mixture onto the batter, then sprinkle on the apple slices.
Then pour the remaining batter on top!
The cinnamon oat crumble
One of my favorite parts of this apple bread is the oat crumble on top. Simply mix together the oats, coconut oil, maple syrup, and cinnamon.
Sprinkle on top, and bake!
Can I make this healthy apple cinnamon bread recipe gluten free?
Absolutely! I’ve tested this both with regular flour and with gluten free 1-to-1 baking flour (I recommend either King Arthur or Bob’s Red Mill- make sure there’s xanthan gum in it!).
Both work perfectly, and you don’t need to change any measurements. I just recommend that you sift the flour, either way!
How to store vegan apple cinnamon bread
I recommend placing your baked apple cinnamon bread in the fridge, either in an airtight container or in a sealable bag.
I personally find it’s easier to slice the bread entirely and then store, but you can store the whole loaf as well!
Additionally, you may want to freeze some slices (up to 2 months!) in the freezer for some extra snacking in a few weeks! To reheat, simply preheat the oven to 350F and bake on a piece of aluminum foil for 5-7 minutes.
I hope you love this healthy apple cinnamon bread as much as I do! If you make it, let me know down below in the comments section, as well as giving it a rating so that others can find it.
